About Mieke
Working from the Netherlands, Mieke Noordegraaf creates contemporary abstract paintings in which texture becomes a language of its own. Built through countless layers, her work reflects on erosion, memory and transformation. Rather than telling a story, each painting offers space for personal interpretation, inviting the viewer to connect with what remains beneath the surface.
The work
The work comes about slowly. Paint is added, removed, covered and revealed again until the surface begins to hold something that cannot be planned. Over the years the paintings have become less about expression and more about discovery: slowing down, listening, and trusting the process rather than controlling it.
When a painting finally feels complete, it is rarely because everything has been said. It is because nothing more needs to be added.
Some paintings ask to be understood. Others simply ask you to stay.
